If you've ever done a handover — to a co-parent, a grandparent, a nanny, a childminder — you know these questions. They get asked at the door, half-remembered, sometimes wrong, always at the worst possible moment (a crying toddler, one hand on the car door, everyone late).
Care Log is our answer to that problem: a shared, running record of a child's day that both sides of a handover can see, add to, and trust.
#What Care Log Is
Care Log is a simple, shared timeline for each child in your Circle. Anyone with access can log:
- Sleep — when a nap started and ended
- Feeds — what, when, and how much
- Nappy changes
- Mood — a quick read on how they're doing
- Temperature — useful when they're unwell
- Notes — anything that doesn't fit a category: "left sun cream in the changing bag," "tired today, went down early"
Each entry is timestamped and shows who logged it, so there's never any ambiguity about when something happened or who was there for it. Entries can include a duration (for sleep), a quantity (for feeds), a quality rating, or just a free-text note — whatever fits the moment.
#Built for Handovers, Not Just Households
Most family organisers assume everyone lives under one roof. Care Log doesn't.
It's designed for the reality of shared care — separated or co-parenting families splitting time between two homes, or a nanny, childminder, or grandparent stepping in for part of the week. Instead of a rushed verbal handover or a memory-dependent WhatsApp message, whoever's picking up the child can open Care Log and see exactly what's already happened that day.
To support this, SimpliHome has a Carer role — a way to give a nanny, au pair, or childminder access to Care Log for the children they look after, without giving them access to the rest of your Circle's finances, calendar, or other private information. Carers can view and add entries; they just don't see anything outside the care log itself.
Circle admins and family members get full access too, so the same shared timeline works whether it's two parents coordinating a custody handover or a childminder briefing a parent at pickup.
One rule keeps things honest: you can only edit or delete the entries you logged yourself. Nobody can quietly rewrite someone else's record of the day.

Care Log lives in the News Feed, under its own tab, for any Circle with children set up as family members. Open a child's profile from there to see their day — or their week — at a glance, and add a new entry in a couple of taps.
